A Brief Introduction from Your Hosts, Maiden Wine
When we first heard "Two Sides of the Trilogy" by way of a vinyl sharing site, we didn't quite know what to think. We had heard all kinds of music and had a fairly jaded ear, but this album had qualities that made it impossible to write off as "just another variation on this or that". The range of musical genres was wide to say the least, ranging from the pop optimism of Candyman to the Moog groove of ELP's Trilogy. It had a lush sound and intricate arrangements that seemed far beyond the ability of your average local trio. Vocalist Lori Lee had a rich, warm voice that pulled it all together on any track of any genre. On top of all this, it had an enigmatic jacket with photos of the trio on the front and back that suggested clues to their histories and lifestyles, but didn't tell you enough to feel satisfied that you had the full story.
Since that first listen, we've played the burned CD countless times, often remarking upon its brilliance, singing along in the styles of the Trilogy members, Kurt, Ike, and Lori, theorizing over how they came up with their playlist, and speculating about who they were and what they were doing now. We came up with an idea to create a tribute site to the album, even with such little information at hand. We regularly searched ebay in the slim hope that someday someone would post of a copy of the album up there.
After many long months, finally that day came. We vowed that we must own this record no matter what. To our dismay, someone else out there really wanted it too. Much nerve-wracking strategic bidding ensued and eighty-one dollars later, it was ours. << back 1 - 2 - 3 next >>
